The Music

Explore Randy's works through the decades.

Growing up

1960's - Growing up in Southern California as a music teacher's son, Randy has always been surrounded by music. By 15 he was already learning songs to perform at local high school dances.

During this time he played in a band called Sunrise with Matthew Chapman and Sam Scott who would join him in Allies later down the line.

At age 18, Randy experienced a pivotal moment that would send him on a brand-new trajectory.

From there his love of music grew as he joined the band Psalm 150 where he first met Bob Carlisle and Jimmy Erickson who would also join him in the band Allies later down the line.

1976 - Randy joins Sweet Comfort Band with the Thompson brothers (Kevin and Rick) and Brian Duncan.

Sweet Comfort Band became known as one of the top Christian Rock bands of the era. In a time when most Christian music was nothing more than hymns, the progressive funk and R&B sound of Sweet Comfort Band was a welcomed breath of fresh air.

1984 - Randy starts Allies with Psalm 150 bandmates, Bob Carlisle and Jim Erickson along with Matthew Chapman and Sam Scott from Sonrise.

Able to produce music with limited resources his whole life, Randy starts to build a professional studio and goes on to produce and record most of the Allies records in his own studio.

Nashville (a new genre)

1987 -  Randy starts writing country songs with Bob Carlisle, which results in penning the No. 1 country song "Why'd You Come in Here Lookin' Like That?" performed by Dolly Parton. This draws the award-winning duo to move to Nashville, TN for a new era working in a different genre.

This was the start of Randy writing for, and touring with, many large acts including Shania Twain, Hank Williams Jr., Colin Raye, Ty England, and the list goes on.

Butterfly Kisses

1997 - After years as a writing team and months of writing a particular song, Randy and writing partner Bob Carlisle release Butterfly Kisses - a song considered an underdog in their vast portfolio.

Butterfly Kisses struck a chord deep in American pop culture and enjoyed sweeping success as one of the first cross-genre hits being enjoyed on radio stations that spanned from Christian to Country and Pop music.

Praise and Worship

NOW - Still a prolific performer and songwriter, Randy writes and records contemporary praise and worship music which is enjoyed by congregants across America especially in his home church at which he is currently the Director of Worship.

Randy can be heard live as one half of the duo "Randy and Lori" - a performance project with his wife Lori.
